Swaps For A Healthier Year

Simple Swaps To Make For A Healthier New Year

Most people have given up on their new years resolutions by now. Maybe you felt strong the first week, the second week you started to lose hope, and the third week you quit all together.

I talked in my last blog about why new years resolutions don’t work (and what you can do to change that). So I wanted to share more about some easy, healthy swaps you can make into HABITS.

We aren’t talking about huge transformations here. We are talking small daily habits that, in the long run, WILL lead to huge transformations.

You see, with new years resolutions, we almost expect to see transformation overnight, even though we know that’s not possible. But with these swaps I’m sharing you will begin to feel better in a couple weeks, IF you are consistent!

These are habits, meaning tasks you do everyday or frequently (consistently). This is the way to true change (in a way that’s not a drag!).

  1. Swap some social media time for a walk.

Do you pay attention to how much time you spend on your phone every day? If you are like most people in the world, it’s a lot!

What if you took ten (or more) minutes out of that time per day to move your body? I bet you wouldn’t even notice the ten minutes you lost on Tik Tok!

We’ve become a very sedentary society but our bodies are meant to move. Adding just a little bit of movement into your day could make all the difference.

2. Swap soda for water.

Soda is basically sugar and caffeine. Yes, it gives us a short energy boost, but over time that fades and leaves us even more tired than before. And in need of some more caffeine!

On the other hand our body is made of water and thrives on water. Once the caffeine is out of the system, water fuels and energizes.

Maybe you don’t completely remove soda, but swapping one soda per day for water can even make a difference.

We are talking small steps here for big change.

3. Swap out toxic household products

Cleaning supplies, beauty products, hygiene products… they all contain toxins that are not meant to be consumed by humans.

And you might be thinking “but I am not ingesting the product.”

Think again! The skin is the most susceptible part of the body and about 70% of toxins enter and leave through the skin.

That’s why choosing non-toxic products is so important. Two of my favorite non-toxic products are:

  • Attitude (hygiene and laundry)
  • Truly (household cleaning products)

I struggled for a long time finding products I like that are toxin free and actually work. These do!

When you start to think about changing all your products it can get a little overwhelming. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed! Simply choose different products as you run out of the ones you are using. You would get new ones anyway, right?

4. Swap fast food for a home cooked meal

The convenience of fast food may be inviting, but the feeling afterward is not. Cooking at home ensures you know what is going in your food and being able to make healthier alternatives.

This doesn’t mean you can’t have your cheeseburger and fries. Grill a burger and stick some seasoned potatoes in the oven. You can still have your favorite foods but by preparing them yourself you can prepare them in healthier ways.

Processed food (like fast food) has a direct correlation with higher levels of mental health issues. Food really does impact our body AND our brain!

Making these easy swaps can get you from stuck and not feeling good in your body to thriving and having a healthy, happy 2023. Lets commit to making these habits together this year!
